Handwritten signature image vs e-signature: what a design file can do

A transparent PNG of your signature is useful — but it is not the same as a verified electronic signature.

People often ask for a “digital signature” and mean two different things.

A signature image

A transparent PNG of your handwritten signature. You can place it in PDFs, email footers, letters and slides. It shows your signature; it does not prove that you signed.

An e-signature service

Tools such as DocuSign or Adobe Acrobat Sign record who signed, when and from where. That audit trail is what gives an electronic signature its weight.

How they work together

Many e-signature tools let you upload your own signature image, so a designed signature still appears on the document while the service handles verification.

Keep the file private

Treat the image like a key: do not post it publicly in full resolution, and do not send it to people who only need a typed name. Our files are delivered through a private link, not a public folder.
